Composites

The term composite can mean many things in today’s world of diverse materials. Basically a composite is a mixture of two or more materials that create a new material with unique properties. Usually composites are designed and manufactured to perform in a certain manner which is not found otherwise.

Since ATS produces all of its own advanced ceramic feedstock for injection molding we are in an advantageous position to produce composites as well. In fact, we have often created unique composites to suit specific applications at our customer’s request. Making our own feedstock allows for an infinite number of composite options:

1. Mixture of two or more advanced ceramic powders
2. Mixture of ceramic powder and ceramic fiber
3. Mixture of ceramic powder and ceramic whisker
4. Mixture of ceramic powder and metal powder
5. Addition of metal or ceramic powder “modifiers” to ceramic powder
6. Addition of metal or ceramic powder “aids” to ceramic powder
